Quadratic Formula Song Competition!


Quadratic Formula Song Competition (10th Grade ALG II Class)

Teams (team names are names of polynomial functions--1st-degree, 3rd-degree, 4th-degree, 5th-degree, respectively)
 Team Linear: Thomas Lo/Amanda Chen/Wendy Sun
 Team Cubic: Andy Shih/Tiffany Yang/Yu-Chin Chang
 Team Quartic: Katy Wong/Cindy Wu/Eric Chien (Benson Wang will be in the group but he will not be able   
                       to participate in the presentation because of personal leaves)
 Team Quintic: Christine Wang/Amy Hsieh/Jasmine Tsao

Rules:

1.      Form three teams of about the same number of teammates in each ALG II class.
2.      Teacher will form the teams
3.      Everyone must participate in the song making.
4.      Compose an original song for Quadratic Formula.
5.      The formula must be repeated 3 times in the song.
6.      The songs will be voted by the entire class (student body?) at song presentation time.
7.      Team members for the first prize song will earn 100 for the quiz grade.  Second place team will earn 90 and third place will earn 80.
   
Due date: 1/03 2011 , Team caption turns in the song to teacher

Presentation time: Jan 6 /7th in class
               Intra classes’ presentation will be arranged

Homework for Friday

So kids today we completed 3.7.
The homework is 3.6# 24, 28, 30, 32, 38, 40, 42;
                           3.7# 1, 10, 16, 20, 40, 43


Things to take away from section 3.7:
  • Determinant only applies to square matrices!
  • We can use determinant to find areas of a triangle on the coordinate plane
  • We can also use determinant to solve linear systems (a system of linear equations in 2/3 or more variables) efficiently using a computer!
